Here’s a chance to learn more about the author Carrie Fabris and get an inside look at the making of “ALL IN – A Working Mom’s Unapologetic Quest for A Juicy Life”.
Writing a new book & developing an e-course takes a lot of hard work and time. How do you manage with everything, being that you are a working mom as well?
Carrie: The honest answer is “the struggle with the juggle is real!” Somedays I look at myself in the mirror after a very long day of up early to work, going into morning mom duty, focusing on clients all day, going into evening mom duty, and catching up on more work. Other days, I simply mom, work and mom ensuring that I focus on stress recovery. Overall, with intention comes the superpowers to get things that matter taken care of.
If you could describe yourself with three words, what would they be?
Carrie: Energetic, real, unapologetic ;-)
Being where you are today, if you could go back 10-15 years ago, what would you say to yourself?
Carrie: I would say so much, that my 30-something self would likely get annoyed with the unsolicited advice! HA! I would tell myself to TRULY not sweat the small stuff, make time for self care, understand that frustration means you are about to have a breakthrough, anxiety is not your friend, and that failure is essential to growth. Most importantly, I would tell her that at every phase of life, you are exactly where you are supposed to be in order to become who you are meant to become in the future. Simply trust diving timing and focus on possibility.
What did you dream your future would be like when you were a kid?
Carrie: I had a lot of trauma as a kid (as mentioned in the book) but I had hoped my future would be bright. Honestly, I dreamt I’d be an astronaut! Even 10 years ago, if you would have told me I’d be an executive strengths coach, entrepreneur with a thriving business, focused on helping people be the best version of themselves personally and professionally, I would have thought you were literally crazy. No one is as surprised about where I am today than I am!
What is your favorite quote, and why?
Carrie: I have a tie actually! “Where focus goes, energy flows” by Tony Robbins and “Whether you think you can, or you think you can't – you're right.” by Henry Ford. Both suggest that whatever you focus on and believe will create your reality and only YOU are in control of that reality. Both are powerful reminders!
If you could choose a famous author to be your mentor, who would it be and why?
Carrie: I have a major crush on Mel Robbins who is the author of The 5 Second Rule and High 5 Habit. She is a total badass who loves humans, wants to make an impact in the same arena I do, she’s real, influences millions, and is simply amazing.
Is this your first book that you are publishing?
Carrie: This is my first non-fiction book. I published a children’s book in 2020 called Fans Are Fantastic, written for my son who has a major passion for ceiling fans.
When did you start writing this book?
Carrie: The IDEA of ALL IN was ignited on Mother’s Day 2021. Hard to believe that only a year later, it has come to fruition!
Did you ever have a “breakdown” moment and wanted to call it quits?
Carrie: No. When leaning in to write ALL IN, it was all led by my intuition. I did not have a daily writing habit. Somedays, I had things to get out on paper. Other days, I didn’t. I followed my gut and kept it going. Writing this book was the proverbial cherry on my transformation sundae so it was meaningful to me and had to come out.
What was something surprising you learned about with what it takes to write a book?
Carrie: It wasn’t as much surprising, but I learned that when something really matters to you, it will come to fruition. I had the idea to write a book over the past many years with seven different topics and 12 different titles but none of them quite came about. When the idea of ALL IN hit me, it was like a ton of bricks and I felt to my core that my story needed to be told, in hopes that not only I would continue to heal and grow but that I would impact other women who need to know they are not alone in their frustrations while craving fulfillment, and that a path to that fulfillment is 100% possible.
What or Who was your biggest inspiration for writing this book?
Carrie: My best friend Jessica was the one that lovingly hounded me to write my story. Reliving how far I had come was part of my inspiration, the other was simply offering something up to other working moms that was relatable, filled with hard truths and humor.
Which part of the book was your biggest obstacle?
Carrie: Writing the chapter about my deceased mother was the most emotional.
What did you enjoy the most about writing this book?
Carrie: Reliving the journey from this side has been extremely cathartic. I found myself enjoying reading what I had captured, remembered vividly, gone through, survived, etc.
How did you decide on the title for your book?
Carrie: This book was originally going to be called Mama Juice! But too many minds were going in the gutter with that one. HA! Coming up with the title was an excruciating process, truly! I finally told myself that the title was somewhere in the book, so I re-read Part 2 and the sentence, “I wanted more and I wanted it now” got me signing in my head Queen’s song “I want it all!” Then it hit me – like chills head to toe and teary eyes, hit me! I’ve always said that I’m ALL IN with my family because they are my A.L.L. – Andres, Lucas, and Lillian. I’m ALL IN on them and I had indeed gone all in on myself. Touching on the “juice” part was important to me as well because “juicing up” your life is essential…and the juicy part is a super sweet inside joke with my kids.
Do you plan on writing another book in the future?
Carrie: I think I might! I see myself writing books more focused on leadership and taking action. I had a lot more fun writing this book that I had imagined, so yes, I can see more in the future.
What do you hope your readers will hold on to after reading this book?
Carrie: I hope they will be inspired to unapologetically focus on themselves, find the courage to make self care a priority, give themselves permission to take massive action, and to do what they have talked about, dreamt about, but had never actually done…up until now. I hope they honor themselves and step into their power for the future!
